Cathedral D1 Hockey Recruits

The St. Cloud Cathedral Crusader hockey team had many outstanding players and kids. They went 76-18-3 over those four years. Nate Warner, Jack Smith, and Blake Perbix combined for 610 points in their high school career, which is ridiculous for three teammates. If Mack Motzko didn't transfer to Minnetonka for his junior season, he would've had another 200+ points for the Crusaders. He was that good. The first three players I mentioned, along with defenseman Reid Bogenholm are all committed to Division 1 hockey schools. There could be more from this team that could go D1, but I'll give my opinion on how these four will transfer their game to the D1 Level.

Reid Bogenholm, Defenseman; Air Force

Reid is strong on the puck and skilled on defense. He's a smart player who plays strong defensively. He can get rattled at some points and can get easily frustrated with opponents, which is something he'll have to learn under Frank Serratore. He teaches discipline and defense, as shown against the SCSU Huskies in the West Regional a few years ago (man that hurt :( ).

Nate Warner, Center; Minnesota

Nate is a very skilled offensive player with a ton of speed and gets his teammates involved. That will translate very well on Lake Mariucci as he plays for the Gophers. To me, he's not the best defensive player, but is okay. But he does a bit of cherry picking and waits his turn to be sprung on the breakaway. He'll have to play a little grittier to play on Motzko's squad.

Jack Smith, Forward; Minnesota-Duluth

Jack is a prototype forward for what Scott Sandelin has at UMD. He is fast, has a quick release, and gets his teammates involved as well. I believe he'll have a great chance to break in the opening lineups for Duluth. He's gritty and tough and that is a plus for the Bulldogs.

Blake Perbix, Forward; Northern Michigan

Blake is a smart player who took the reigns and control this year for the Crusaders. He also is gritty and is a great passer and finisher at the net. He along with Warroad's Grant Slukynsky and Moorhead's player (apologize for forgetting his name) are going to be deadly scoring threats up in Marquette for the Wildcats.
